The City of Bago remains the area with the highest number of dengue cases in Negros Occidental province.
This is based on the Morbidity Week 16, Dengue Fever Surveillance update from the Provincial Health Office from January 1 to April 19 this year.
According to the report, Bago City recorded 333 dengue cases, with one fatality. This is followed by La Carlota City with 145 cases; Kabankalan City with 141 cases; San Carlos City with 103 cases and one fatality; and Silay City with 91 cases and one fatality.
Meanwhile, there were 85 dengue cases in Cauayan town; 69 in Pulupandan; 58 in Talisay City; 52 in Valladolid town; and 50 from Hinigaran town.
Provincial Health Officer Dr. Girlie Pinongan said that while the number of dengue cases in the province continues to rise, the rate of increase has slowed down.
Pinongan also confirmed that seven people have died from the disease, which is transmitted through mosquito bites. The latest fatality was from Bago City.
